While writing about Lac remedies in Homoeopathy, we first need to understand what exactly Lac group is. So when we talk about lac remedies, remedies that come up are those which belongs to mammalian group. So we need to study the characteristics of mammalian group.
Below are few keys to understand what is the common theme in mammal remedies:
1.Feeling of belonging to the group and connection to ones immediate family members i.e father, mother, sibling
2.Fight for supremacy with the group
3.Conflicts regarding control of sexuality, sexual guilt, history of sexual abuse.
4.Fear of snakes
5.Self tactical-looks down upon himself,self contemptuous,caring for young ones
6.Symptoms of mammary glands and premenstrual syndrome
7.Aversion or desire for milk
Lets try to understand them in details, for that I would like to narrate an incidence from the life of Jonathan hardy homoeopath who is practising homoeopathy in hampshire since 1985.He has quoted in British Homoeopathic article about the incidence when he was on a holiday in a small Mediterranean villa where he frequently got encountered with small half starved group of semi wild cats who lost theie motherf. They not only noticed that these cats put on weight when put on Greek yogurt and cat food, but they were also suckling another cat who was not their mother and also that this cat turned out to be male. The young male cat was very affectionate but that behavior signifies the need of experiencing and enjoying the joy of going through emotions. This very sense of PHYSICAL CLOSENESS, WARMTH AND CONTACT, is very very strong in mammals to which he called it as MAMMALIAN FEELING.
This early feeling of belonging ,of being a part of group,of establishing immediate connections,of feeling contented, happy, and secure meets the emotional and physical needs of nourishment of a child. However if this process is disturbed in some or the other way- the individual can profoundly be unfulfilled, empty and insecure. These feelings are so deep that they may lead to severe emotional and physical problems.
The unique adaptation of mammal is to produce milk and milk is produced in the mammary gland from which name mammalia is derived. Thus suckling- feeding an young one is uniquely a mammal activity.Suckling is wonderful combination of both emortional and physical nourishment. It involves feeding the young but more than that it involves a physical contact between mother and young with the warmth and intimacy it provides. Thus the combination of physical togetherness , nourishment and emotional intimacy are all combined in the process of breast feeding. And hence we see number of problems arising in respect to mammary gland. And problems associated with premenstrual syndrome.
Milk as a medicine in homoeopathy:
From homoeopathic point of view milk is very intresting medicine. It combines elements from two sources.People who need milk as a remedy will show issues and problems related to milk in general, but also issues relating to the specific anikmal source from which milk comes. These people who need milk remedies often lands up into eating disorders. They may have food intolerances or cravings or addictions. They may have tendency to comfort eating or anorexia or bulimia, may be very hungry all the time, fussy about eating or totally intolerant of missing a meal.It is as if they are empty both physically and emotionally. That is the reason they may sometimes crave milk or dislike it or made ill by it.
Patients needing milk remedies are often somewhat immature emotionally – they often regress into a child-like state under stress. They are often self-conscious and shy. It is common to see a history of poor bonding with a parent, especially the mother. There can be a feeling of not being part of the family or a desire to leave home early. Often the child will have found an alternative mother, for example an aunt or a grandmother. Sometimes the child gets into the role of actually mothering their own mother, especially if the mother had mental illness. There is often a feeling that siblings were preferred to them. The general feeling is one of forsakenness and isolation.
Children in need of milk remedies are often impulsive and unable to control their behaviour. They may tend to fight – often like animals – with scratching and kicking. On the other hand they can be very playful, again like mammals, with lots of hugging and kissing and jumping on people. They often love the outdoors and are very good at climbing and sport. Often they love animals and interestingly animals often love them. There is a kind of animal magnetism about them.
Mammals fall into different categories. Some are predators and others are prey. Some are solitary creatures while others live in herds or packs. Some are carnivores, others herbivores. Predatory mammals provide milk that is useful for people who tend to be aggressive and independent, while animals which are prey give milk suiting people who are more shy and with a tendency to run away or hide from problems!
